Personalizing the Future of Care Through Digital Innovation

From e-Health26 Track: The New Rx: Innovation Meets Individuality

Healthcare is moving toward a more personalized future, where digital tools, predictive technologies, and AI-driven insights are helping tailor care to the unique needs of individual patients. However, as innovation accelerates, healthcare organizations are also being challenged to implement these technologies thoughtfully with trust and clinical value. The New Rx: Innovation Meets Individuality Track at e-Health26 explores how digital therapeutics and AI-enabled solutions are reshaping disease management, patient engagement, and personalized care delivery.

Session highlights

A major theme across this Track is the growing role of predictive intelligence in supporting clinical decision-making. In Lessons from a Novel Application and Evaluation of a Digital Twin in Primary Care, Ted Alexander and Justin Wolting (Amplify Care) alongside Graeme Larsen (Verto Health) examine how AI-powered Digital Twin technology is being applied in primary care settings. Through parallel evaluations of both the AI model and its real-world clinical use, the session offers practical lessons for healthcare leaders looking to responsibly adopt emerging digital health innovations while improving population health management.

At the same time, successful innovation depends on how patients and providers experience it. Exploring Staff and Patients’ Perceptions of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Mental Health Care, presented by Valentina Tamayo Velasquez (University of Toronto), explores the attitudes, challenges, and opportunities surrounding AI integration within a mental health setting. The findings highlight the importance of transparency, education, and implementation practices that reflect the distinct concerns and expectations of both staff and patients—critical factors in ensuring responsible and effective adoption.

The potential for AI to proactively improve patient outcomes is also being explored in mental healthcare environments. Leveraging AI for Early Detection of Mental Health Decline, presented by Andrea Waddell, MD, MEd, FRCPC (Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care), Jennifer Crawford (Weeneebayko Area Health Authority), and Valentina Tamayo Velasquez, examines how an Ontario psychiatric hospital developed an AI-powered early warning system capable of identifying patterns linked to impending patient crises. By analyzing electronic medical record data in real time, the initiative aims to help clinicians intervene earlier and prevent adverse outcomes, demonstrating how predictive technologies can support more proactive and individualized models of care.

These sessions reflect a broader evolution in healthcare: innovation is becoming increasingly personalized, data-informed, and predictive. As organizations continue exploring how AI and digital therapeutics can support better outcomes, the focus is shifting toward technologies that not only scale, but adapt meaningfully to the needs of individual patients and care teams.
