Celebrating CIHI’s 30th Anniversary

The momentum surrounding Canada’s digital health future is strong, and as a co-host of the annual e-Health Conference and Tradeshow with Digital Health Canada and Canada Health Infoway, we at CIHI are excited to hear about the successes and discuss the challenges experienced by our colleagues in the digital health arena.

It turns out that my final year at CIHI also marks its 30th anniversary. It has been a tremendous privilege to help shape the future of health data in Canada and to work with some of the most talented and dedicated people in the country. Together we have worked hard to establish digital health as a priority in the delivery of safe, accessible, high-quality care. We’re looking forward to building on that momentum with you at this year’s conference.

We have made a lot of progress in Canada on our digital health evolution, but there is much work left to do. I have every confidence that the challenges the health system faces have also inspired new opportunities in the digital health community. Budget 2024 signalled that our government partners are committed to a major investment in innovation and Canada’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) sector.

As part of our digital modernization efforts, CIHI is transforming the work we do to ensure we are able to support the advancement of health data and reporting in Canada in the digital age. Like you, we want to improve the health outcomes of all Canadians. CIHI is working with Infoway to create a connected health system that will see data flow seamlessly across the health care continuum through digital health systems and health technology solutions that consistently and securely share data. We are also creating a responsible hub for AI to make meaningful health data insights available to drive better decision-making and to alleviate the administrative burden felt by both users and providers. These types of innovation efforts are foundational to making connected patient-centred care a reality in Canada and will be critical as we continue to work together to advance digital health initiatives across the country.

I’m looking forward to seeing you in Vancouver and to meeting many of you at CIHI’s 30th Anniversary Reception, where I will chat with CTV’s Avis Favaro about the important transformation work underway to help support our health systems and to toast 30 years of CIHI’s contributions. I hope you will find time to join us, and I am excited for us all to keep collaborating on ways in which digital health can be leveraged to improve the health of all Canadians.
